Waffle Recipe

Waffles (also called honeycomb waffles) are a European dessert with a crispy outside and a soft, fluffy inside. Today, we’ll learn an easy way to make waffles using all-purpose flour that still taste delicious, just like store-bought ones!

Ingredients (for 4-6 medium waffles)

Waffles

Dry ingredients

  • 200 g all-purpose flour (about 1½ cups)

  • 50 g sugar (about ¼ cup)

  • 5 g baking powder (1 teaspoon)

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Wet ingredients

  • 2 eggs

  • 250 ml unsweetened milk (1 cup)

  • 50 g unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Tools needed

  • Waffle maker

  • Large mixing bowl

  • Whisk or hand mixer

  • Pastry brush

How to make Waffles

Mix the dry ingredients

  • Sift 200 g all-purpose flour, 5 g baking powder, 50 g sugar, and ¼ teaspoon salt into a large bowl.
  • Whisk well to remove lumps and help the waffles turn light and fluffy.

Prepare the wet mixture

  • In another bowl, lightly beat 2 eggs.
  • Add 250 ml unsweetened milk, 50 g melted unsalted butter, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Mix well.

Combine the batter

  • Slowly pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Gently mix with a whisk or spatula until just combined.
  • Do not overmix, or the waffles will be tough.
  • Let the batter rest for 10–15 minutes so it becomes light and fluffy.

Preheat the waffle maker

  • Preheat the waffle maker for about 5 minutes.
  • Lightly brush the plates with melted butter to prevent sticking.

Cook the waffles

  • Pour about 80–100 ml batter (depending on the mold size) into the center of the waffle maker.
  • Use a spoon to spread the batter evenly.
  • Close the lid and cook for 3–5 minutes, depending on the machine.
  • When the waffles turn golden brown and crispy, they are ready.

Serve

  • Remove the waffles with tongs and place them on a rack to cool slightly and stay crispy.
  • Enjoy while warm with honey, whipped cream, fruit, or chocolate.

Tips for better waffles

  • Do not overmix the batter; a few small lumps are fine and keep waffles soft.

  • Let the batter rest long enough for a fluffier texture.

  • Adjust cooking time if you prefer crispier waffles.

  • Always preheat the waffle maker for even cooking and better color.

  • Unsalted butter gives better flavor than oil.

  • Cooking time may vary depending on your waffle maker.
