Croissant Recipe

Croissants are a famous specialty from Austria. Anyone who loves sweet pastries is probably familiar with this special treat. Have you learned how to make croissants yet? Below, we’ll share a simple croissant recipe to help you make this delicious pastry at home.

Croissant Recipe

 Ingredients you need to prepare:

  • Bread flour: 500 g

  • Sugar: 90 g

  • Dry yeast: 15 g

  • Salt: 15 g

  • Unsalted butter: 340 g

  • Warm milk: 300 ml

  • A small amount of baking powder

  • 1 egg (beaten and mixed with a little water) 

How to make Croissant


 Step 1: Prepare the butter

  • Place the butter between two sheets of parchment paper and roll it flat to a size of about 20–25 cm.
  • Chill the butter in the refrigerator for a few minutes.

Step 2: Make the dough

  • Mix flour, salt, sugar, yeast, and warm milk in a large bowl. Knead until you get a smooth, elastic dough.
  • Place the dough in a lightly floured bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1.5–2 hours until doubled in size.

Step 3: Laminate the dough

  • Roll the dough out thinly, wrap the chilled butter inside, then roll it flat again.
  • Wrap and chill in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  • Repeat the rolling and chilling process 3 times, chilling 30 minutes each time.

Step 4: Shape the croissants

  • Divide the dough into 2 equal parts.
  • Roll each piece to about 0.5 cm thick, cut into rectangles, then into triangles.
  • Roll each triangle into a crescent shape.

Step 5: Bake

  • Preheat the oven to 300°C for 10–15 minutes.
  • Place the croissants on a lined baking tray, brush with beaten egg mixed with water.
  • Bake for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.
